Via the BZSt interface you can check VAT IDs of the EU member states, but not the German VAT IDs. Inquiries can be sent only with a valid German VAT ID. If there is no valid German VAT ID for the active company in the current period, no check via BZSt can be performed.

VIES [VAT Information Exchange System] is the interface of the European Commission. Using the VIES interface it is also possible to check German VAT IDs. Having selected the VAT IDs to be checked, start the simple check by clicking on the corresponding button.
