SmartNotes offers the possibility to create any number of roles. In these roles, permissions are bundled and assigned to individual users or groups on a system-wide, document-wide or chapter-wide level. In older versions, permissions were assigned directly to users and groups, but this is no longer state of the art and therefore no longer the recommended way of maintaining permissions. For more information, see Group Permissions. The difference between groups and roles can be described as follows: - Unlike groups, to which users can be assigned and then permissions can in turn be assigned to the groups, the role reflects a bundle of permissions.
- Groups bundle users, whereas roles bundle permissions.
- The advantages of roles over groups are particularly evident in the subsequent modification of roles and in the creation of new reports.
- Roles are used to bundle permissions and thus simplify the administration of permissions within SmartNotes.
